Eat & Drink

Fine Food,
Real Flavour

Dining is an important part of the Cavens experience. A full three-course dinner, freshly prepared by Angus, is included with every room. Our food ethos is simple: top quality ingredients and tasty, unpretentious dishes, with a real passion for local seasonal produce reflected in the daily set menu.

Dinner

An Unhurried
Pleasure

Dinner is served at seven o'clock each evening. Due to the nature of everything being freshly prepared in the kitchen, we ask guests to be seated around this time, having first maybe enjoyed an aperitif from the bar.

Tables are well spaced in our large dining room and you will always be seated at your own private table. Expect to sample fresh pan-fried scallops, free-range duck and homemade desserts. If you do not fancy what is on the menu of the day, we always have locally smoked salmon or a local rib-eye steak available as an alternative.

Local Produce

From Field
to Fork

At Cavens we maintain an excellent relationship with local food suppliers, specialist shops and growers. Not only does this reduce our food miles, but ensures our guests enjoy the freshest ingredients possible and an authentic taste of the region.

This approach extends to our own grounds, and in every dinner you will find something picked or gathered on site. Our artisan breads and award-winning cheeses come from Loch Arthur Creamery. Our breakfast meats are from Houston's Butchers in Dumfries. Fish and game arrive via Barony Country Foods, a traditional Scottish smokehouse. Even the raspberry jam on your breakfast table is made locally in Gatehouse of Fleet.

Sample Menu

Our menu is  guided by the seasons and the best produce available from our local suppliers.

Wine & Spirits

An Eighteenth Century
Wine Cellar

The other hidden gem at Cavens is our eighteenth century wine cellar, and we are always more than happy to show you around. Our wines are almost entirely sourced from Tarquin de Burgh of De Burgh Wines, a relationship built over twenty-five years. Every bottle on our list is something we would be proud to serve at our own table.

From crisp Chablis and elegant Burgundy to fine Bordeaux and robust New World reds, our carefully curated list offers exceptional value. You will also find a generous selection of champagnes, English sparkling wines, ros\u00e9s and dessert wines. We serve spirits in a generous country house measure of 50ml twice what you might find elsewhere.
